Top Ten Most Influential Multiplayer Games
One of the most integral parts of the video game industry in its journey to become a viable entertainment form has been its ability to bring more than one person into the experience. Here’s a list that I’ve come up with to be some of the best, brightest, and most influential multiplayer games to hit the medium. You’ll notice that it’s completely devoid of MMO’s, which was deliberate (MMO’s have been important to the social aspect of gaming over their existence, but since they depend on the nature of multiplayer gameplay, then they’d pretty much deserve their own list on the matter). So, without further delay, here’s the list:

Guitar Hero II
While the first entry to the series was a smash hit that helped legitimize the rhythm game genre, its sequel introduced co-op, allowing two players to play different instruments and note charts for the first time.

Mario Kart 64
Nintendo’s racer set a precedent for the company, presenting some truly great multiplayer experiences for up to four players and paving the way for the Mario Parties and Super Smash Bros. of the world.

SOCOM: U.S. Navy Seals
The PS2’s first online tactical shooter was the most important online game to date for Sony, as well as one of first tactical shooters to really bring teamwork into the equation
