Rather than taking the traditional path of creating a sequel to their hit title flOw, thatgamecompany is delivering up an original game titled Flower.

Taking control of a petal, players will guide the petal as it flows on the wind to revive the world of color and life. Not relying on action of any sorts, the game is all about puzzles and figuring out how to restore the world.

Throughout the demo, the crowd had many responses of awe as the environment of the game is downright beautiful. The grass blades react accordingly to the wind blowing in different directions and look ultra-smooth. Using the grass as the foreground rather than the background, it’s a guarantee that gamers have never experienced anything like Flower.

Created by Jenova Chen, the creative director of thatgamecompany, Flower has players unlocking new levels by means of clicking on the flower in the main house. Chen promises that the later levels of the game will provide more difficult challenges later on in the game that weren’t seen in the demonstration.

The last world that was presented was a world that had Chen out to give the world wind. Asking the player how to provide wind to a large windmill in the middle of the level, players will have to start off with tackling the smaller ones that are scattered throughout the level. Once they finish getting the wind to run through the smaller windmills, the larger one will eventually activate and return the world back to its glorious look.

Make no mistake about it; Flower is an amazing looking game with a lot of ambition behind the title. It’ll definitely be a niche title that won’t gain the interest of the crowd of gamers who want a gun in their character’s hands, but for those who are looking for a game that strives to stand out from the crowd, Flower fits the bill. Flower is set for a 2009 release and hasn’t reached alpha stage yet.
