Soulcalibur IV Preview
One of the most revered series in the fighting game genre, SoulCalibur has long stood as some of the fined 3D combat that you can find. Now, the series is readying its fourth installment, and the first one for next-gen hardware, with SoulCalibur IV.
Due out later this month, SoulCalibur IV is more balanced than its predecessor, offers great new character customization features, and some great new characters. The action is fast-paced and fun as it ever was, and that coupled with the great new features and great graphics make this a fighter that fans will definitely want to check out.
As the game is set to launch in a couple of weeks, the build for the game at E3 2008 was the final one. The game was polished and ready to roll, so the version on display should be the one to get reviewed soon.
SoulCalibur IV’s character roster is filled with the established characters from the series that fans have come to know as well as some new additions. The biggest new additions to the roster are the Star Wars characters, with Yoda and Darth Vader showing up as playable characters in the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, respectively, and the Apprentice character from the upcoming game Star Wars: Force Unleashed.
If none of these characters strike your fancy, the game has a pretty robust character creation mode. This is even deeper than its predecessor, as the clothing and accessories that you put on your fighter will have effects on them, either positively or negatively. There are a fair amount of customizations that you can make for your character, making the experience a lot more layered than the last iteration.
Graphically, the SoulCalibur series has never been a slouch, and SoulCalibur IV is looking to nicely transition the series into the next-gen with some phenomenal graphics. The characters are extremely detailed and very well animated, and the action unfolds smoothly with virtually no slowdown at all.
With only two weeks to go, SoulCalibur IV will be arriving in the hands of gamers very soon, and is looking to be worth the wait.
