LittleBigPlanet Preview
One of the most ambitious titles on the roster for Sony’s PS3, Little Big Planet is a quirky little title that opens up tons of opportunity for creation for players. At E3 2008, GameZone recently had a chance to check out some more of what the game had to offer for fans with the desire to build and create their own levels and customize their characters however they saw fit, and the results were extremely impressive. Little Big Planet is poised to take the PlayStation community by storm, letting players interact with each other and build, create and share like never before.
Little Big Planet lets players create their own stages for the game and share them online where other players can download them, get through them and then make their own tweaks (unless the stage is copyrighted, but more on that soon). The editor is very easy to use, as you simply use the analog sticks to move and rotate your chosen object while placing it in the environment, and gives you ample templates to work with and tons of different customizations to add, including musical cues, songs, color changes, goals, and so on.
The customization element takes a whole new direction when you play the game online. You have the ability to take your custom levels and publish them online, giving players the ability to save them onto their hard drive, play them whenever, and even go through and tweak them and publish them as different levels. However, should you not want your work tweaked or messed with, you’ll also have the ability to copyright it, effectively limiting what other players can do to it. All in all, there is a lot to do with the custom levels system in the game.
Little Big Planet would already be a fun and quirky game, but the customization elements bring the game to a whole new level, emphasizing community and the imagination of its players. Look for it this fall.
